In San Diego, we were visited by the daughter of Esther and Mordukhai Gol – Shoshana Gol, during the family visit of the granddaughter. We were delighted to meet someone in whom the blood of the Mavashevs flows. Shoshana is the granddaughter of Itzhak Haim Mavashev, the natural brother of our grandfather Abram Haim Mavashev. She brought beauty, intelligence, and business acumen to our family, sharing many interesting stories about the life of her grandfather Issach Chaim and her mother Esther.
Here is some information from my sister Tamara, who is 85 years old and lives in Milano:
Malkiel Mavashev was the same age as my uncle Yakov M. (My uncle Yakov M. passed away in 1970 at the age of 49). His two sons are Avi or Avram M. (69 years old with two children; his wife passed away approximately 8 years ago) and Isaac M. (72 years old, divorced, and no children). Their sisters are Orna, who passed away approximately 20 years ago, leaving a son and a daughter, and Varda, the youngest of the four children of Uncle Yakov Mavashev and Aunt Aliza, who is 65 years old and never married.
Malkiel Mavashev was the same age as my uncle Yakov, and his two sons, Zeev and Zalman, were one or two years apart. Both reached a very old age of 95 or 100.
Avram Mavashev, the brother of my grandfather Izac Mavashev, was unfortunately killed at 4 am going to the synagogue for Slichot. Two random thieves were robbing a store and saw him pass by. In fear that he might recognize them, they killed him.
That’s all I have for you for now. This information is from my sister Tamara. My sister Lea is the youngest one; she is 75 and has the best memory. She will provide more information in a few days.
My mother, Ester Mavashev, had 8 children (besides one that died at a young age):
- Rachel passed away at the age of 56, almost 39 years ago. She had heart surgery and died from internal hemorrhage. She left two sons: Shmuel, 72, with no children, and Yuda, 67, who has two daughters (Ruti, 57, with 2 sons).
- Meir passed away at the age of 88 about 6 years ago from kidney and heart failure, 10 years after having his wife’s kidney replacement. He left 4 children: one son and three daughters and more than 30 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
- Sara is 91, in good health, and lives between Italy and Israel, still working. Her husband died 2 years ago. She has one married son Zvi with wife and children, a daughter Khaya with one daughter, and a daughter Dorit with one son and one daughter, married and has a newborn baby boy.
- Moshe was almost 88 and passed away on the plane from Tel Aviv to Milano. He left 3 sons and one daughter. The oldest son is Rami, divorced, with two daughters. The second is daughter Mary, who also has 2 daughters. Rami is divorced, and Mary is divorced. The third and fourth are unmarried: Dani and Gaby.
- My sister Tamara is 85. Her husband died 7 years ago. She has a son Roni, married with a son and two daughters. Her daughter lives in Israel and has a son and a daughter.
- Bracha and her husband have two children: daughter Orna, who died of Covid at the age of 57 two years ago (she had heart surgery, then got Covid in the hospital, and died) and has left three daughters. Orna also left a son who has two sons and a daughter.
- Then myself: Shoshana. I have two children: Elizabeth (now Elisheva, extremely religious) and has 4 children and two grandchildren, of which the oldest, Eden, lives in San Diego since 5 months ago and has 2 children.
